Youth Tour

This summer KEC will send two high school Juniors on an all expense paid trip to our Nations Capital. These students will be joined by others across Oklahoma and the nation. It is fun-filled, exciting and educational week.
The trip begins with a "Get Aquainted Banquet" in Oklahoma City, where everyone meets, makes new acquaintances. After arriving in Washington D.C., the tour of our nation's capital includes days filled with sightseeing , a riverboat trip on the Potomac and lunch with Oklahoma's Congressional delegation.
Youth tour winners will be selected by KEC from contestants who will prepare an essay on an aspect of Rural Electricfication. These contestants will be narrowed down to five finalist. These finalist will go thru an interview process. Two of the five finalist will be selected for the trip.
Submission Guidelines for 2013:
- Only 11th grade students living within the Kiamichi Electric Cooperative service boundaries are eligible to compete. Membership in the Cooperative is not a requirement. (Children of KEC employees and trustees are not eligible to enter.)
- Essays must be at least 750 words in length. The theme is "Describe the need for leaders in Oklahoma rural communities". Essays will be judged on knowledge of subject, originality, composition, neatness and grammar. Though KEC has materials available, students are encouraged to seek out their own resource materials using the Internet, library and periodicals. Completed essays are due at the KEC office no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 29th 2013.
